Lost wax casting
Fine metal works are processed with one of the oldest form generation processes, the lost wax casting. Formerly the desired form was crafted manually from a piece of wax, doused with cast and cauterised. Today the first step, thus the manual shaping of the waxform, is replaced by several RPT / RapidPrototyping processes. The desired shape is created in a 3D application and subsequently printed with a variety of different 3D technologies, such as polymer-spool melt stratification named Fused Deposition Modeling FDM, a laser pointing at powdered or liquid polymer a.m.o.
